Aengus Kelly, chief executive of Ireland-based AerCap, the world’s largest lessor, said Tuesday one of his airline customers reported that an A320neo powered by the GTF reported fuel savings on a six-hour flight of 17 percent compared to the former A320 classic model on the same route — 2 percent better than promised.
Spirit Airlines, the United States launch customer for the Airbus A320neo, continues to face challenges with the Pratt and Whitney engines that power their A320neo fleet. For months, Spirit has had to park multiple A320neo aircraft on various occasions to perform unplanned engine swaps.
While having one or two aircraft out of service is common for an airline the size of Spirit, the problem recently got much worse. Airbus has delivered the first A320neo to Vistara, a Delhi based full service airline and joint venture between Tata Sons Ltd. and Singapore Airlines (SIA).
