American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) will retire the US Airways (US, Phoenix Sky Harbor) brand and "US" flight-code on Saturday, October 17 when a single, unified reservations system launches. From then on, all US Airways flights will be operated under the American Airlines "AA" flightcode.
"As of July 18, all flights departing on or after October 17 will be American flights. During that week, we’ll start to transfer existing US Airways reservations (for travel on or after October 17) to American reservations," US Airways said. "Until then, we’ll continue to operate as two airlines."
Research shows the last two US Airways-operated flights on October 16 will be San Francisco, CA-Philadelphia Int'l and Phoenix Sky Harbor-Denver Int'l.
The two carriers have already integrated their flight operations, maintenance and dispatch procedures after their parent, the American Airlines Group (AAG), secured a Single Operating Certificate (SOC) in April this year.
The company told Reuters that among issues that need to be resolved include the finalization of joint collective bargaining agreements with certain work groups and the integration of flight movement and dispatch IT systems.
The American Airlines Group (AAG) was born in late 2013 after AMR's American Airlines exited bankruptcy and merged with US Airways Group. Once all operations have been integrated, American Airlines will become the world's largest airline operating more than 6'700 daily flights to 336 locations in 56 countries worldwide, with about USD40billion in operating revenue. It will also employ over 100,000 employees, with plans to take delivery of 607 new aircraft.
