CFM International, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce have homework due this week.
The trio of largest engine makers has a June 27 deadline to respond to Boeing’s formal request for proposals (RFP) to power the aircraft that will eventually become its 797, according to three people familiar with the plans.
Delta har VELDIG lyst på dette flyet ....

- Boeing’s been talking about the MOM for six years—an extraordinarily long time.
- The aircraft evolved from a 757 replacement to a 767 replacement—something the 787 was billed to be.
- The business case remains unclear.
- The Airplane definition is still a matter of debate.
- The MOM was defined by Boeing as above the 737-9 and below the 787-8—but now there’s the 737-10 at the small end, for capacity, and renewed interest in the 787-8 at the upper end.
- Airbus is pushing the A321LR and nearing a decision whether to proceed with the A321XLR.
- Engine makers remain cool to the NMA.
- The supply chain is unenthused about the NMA because Boeing wants to capture the aftermarket and hold the intellectual property rights.
- The supply chain is in melt-down
Air Lease’s executive chairman Steven Udvar-Hazy says that Boeing could make a decision on whether or not launch the 797 model mid-year 2019
I følge Airlinerwatch skal Boeing lansere 797 på Paris Airshow 2019.

But on 30 January Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg reset those expectations. This year's decision will be whether to "offer" the NMA, he specified. That means Boeing can wrangle up launch customers.
The actual launch decision will come in 2020, assuming the company's board of directors approves the offer decision, Muilenburg says.
Rolls-Royce has pulled out of the competition to develop an engine for Boeing’s proposed New Mid-size Airplane.
Pontifications: Doubts continue over Boeing NMA launch
Jeg og.Leehamnews her hakket mer tvilende på om Boeing faktisk ender opp med å lansere flyet

Speaking to Bloomberg in New York, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said:
I do anticipate they will do it. I hope they will do it. We have a significant need between the retirements of the 757 and 767 fleets. That’s almost 200 aircraft over the next decade.
Boeing Co’s (BA.N) new chief executive has sent the aerospace giant back to the drawing board on proposals for a new mid-market aircraft, effectively shelving in their current form plans worth $15 billion-$20 billion that had been overtaken by the 737 MAX crisis.
“We’re going to start with a clean sheet of paper again; I’m looking forward to that,” Calhoun said.
