Først vil jeg takke alle som deltok i fjorårets event. Jeg håper alle var fornøyd med opplevelsen.

Hva skjer i år?

Star Mega Do II

Highlights: Heinkell Trocken med Wolfgang Mayrhuber og Jaan Albrecht i Frankfurt. kasser med Champers over atlanteren. Ett par Shiner med Jeff Smisek og en portvin med Graham Atkinson i Houston. Åpen bar i 5 timer sammen med en stabel med Airline Execs på den første Frequent Traveler Awards. En plass ombord en av Dag sine 757-300 for enda en party flight, i år med plass til beina . Ei Cola til 2 dollar sammen med Doug Parker i Phoenix. Enda en partyflight, den neste til Payne Field (skal vi buzze tårnet der kanskje ? ). Som en av de første i verden, sjekk ut verdens vakreste dame, Lufthansas første 747-8 Intercontinental, nærmere kommer du ikke.

2. november

Programmet starter på Lufthansa Aviation Center i Frankfurt. Festmiddag i Lufthansa's kantine

3. november

Gruppen flyr til Houston på LH440 eller CO47, tour i Lufthansa's F terminal før flightene. Hørte jeg Party flight??

Liten ankomst reception i en av CO's hangarer på kvelden

4. november

Full dag hos CO, inkludert sessions med UA og CO executives, inkludert Jeff Smisek. Ett par hemmelige gjester vil virkelig skape interesse

På kvelden hostes den første Frequent Traveler Award på Sheraton IAH

5. november

Ut å fly. Vi har chartret en 757-300 fra CO og har opsjon på enda en 757-300 eller en 739/738. I fjor var 229 med på tur, i år har vi over 100 flere plasser tilgjengelig. Første stop blir Phoenix der vi vil besøke US Airways og Doug Parker. Turen deretter går til Payne Field der Boeing vil besøkes. En meget spesiell tour satt sammen av Lufthansa og Boeing blir mer spesielt en du noen gang har opplevd på Everett.

The scheduled flights

LH has published a group fare for those starting in the US (JFK-FRA-IAH) and we will soon have a group fare for those starting in Europe (FRA-IAH//SEA-FRA). In order to allow some of you to try out a different airline, LX has arranged for a one way group fare (JFK-xZRH-FRA).

For those starting in Europe:

LH FRA-IAH (1374$++) // SEA-FRA (1544$++) = 2918$ plus YQ plus taxes in Business (Z)

Feeders will be available (CO/UA in domestic USA, LH in Europe), however they will be 150$++ for CO/UA and 120€++ for LH, so you may be better off making your arrangements. There will be the facility to request a feeder in the booking form. If we have more than 10 (from OSL-FRA for example) we can apply for a group fare which will be about 10% lower than the W fares.


We are still working on lowering these prices and as things stand some discounts (aprox 5%) may apply to the group fare if certain conditions are met. Stay tuned.

Note: like last year these tickets are not upgradeable. Miles are earned just like you would for a regular ticket. The flexibility of these tickets will be restricted. Like last year there will be a change fee. Also we will collect a non refundable component on the tickets to avoid changes and cancellations that caused a lot of last minute headaches last year.

CO may (if there is sufficient demand) offer a meetingworks discount for all scheduled CO metal flights to and from the events like last year which is 5-10% off on published prices depending on the fare booked.

The Charter

The charter price will include transportation and service from/to IAH-PHX-PAE. If you choose to attend the event starting in PHX, no discount will be available. As mentioned above the repositioning leg back to the location where the charter came from is optional (so PAE-IAH on the morning of the next day is included in the price, but you don't have to take it and can stop in PAE/SEA)

The pricing will be: 1499$ for the F seating, 699$ for economy. This year we have to go for Paypal again. We will collect the money in US$. If you use your checking account and transfer a balance, this will be free, if you use a credit card to pay, we will add the applicable paypal processing fee. This year we will negotiate with Paypal before collecting the money so the booking process will be less painful.

This year we will collect a non refundable deposit of 100$ for sign up once the charter booking opens. This is to avoid the problems we had last year when over 500 signed up but we had to sweat buckets to get 220 to pay up when the charter opened for sale.

Så charteren koster omtrent det samme som i fjor bak gardina. T/R Europa i økonomi koster 700 dollar.


Overnatting
Vi har laget en avtale med Starwood om overnatting. Avtalen innebærer også en fast track til status hos denne kjeden. Bor du på deltakerhotellene får du automatisk SPG Gold ved booking og triple stays underveis noe som vil få deg halvveien til Platinum

Prisene er:

Westin Time Square (for de som starter i USA) 249 dollar
Sheraton Frankfurt: 99 Euro
Sheraton IAH: 99 Dollar
Westin Seattle: 149 Dollar

Prisene er pr natt pr dobbelrom, man kan dele

For å gjøre ting litt klarer:

Du kan fly over for egen maskin og kun ta charteren fra Houston eller du kan benytte deg av LH sine priser som er 700 dollar alt inkludert t/r eller diverse tilbud i C klasse (se over)

Hva du får for hver rute kan du regne ut her: Meilenrechner (fra www.lufthansa.no). I C-klasse FRA-IAH er det ca. 10500 grunnpoeng. Hva du får bak gardinen er helt avhengig av bookingklasse. Laveste ser ut til å være 2615 grunnpoeng.

Men tilbake til topic: Var med på SMD1 og har veldig lyst på å dra på denne også. Jobben gjør imidlertid at dette ikke kan avklares før sent september. :-(

Her er en oppsummering av oppdatert program

The 2009 Star Alliance Mega DO was one of the largest and most successful FlyerTalk events ever. The sold-out event gave 229 distinguished members the opportunity to meet dozens of airlines executives like Herr Wolfgang Mayerhuber, President and CEO of Lufthansa, Graham Atkinson, President of United Mileage Plus, and Jaan Albrecht, President of Star Alliance. The lucky participants got to do a low pass, buzz the tower in Toulouse and wake up the French ATC with the most beautiful lady flying (a 757 mind you), followed by an exclusive visit to the Airbus factory to take a close look at the Airbus 380 production. 4 full days packed with once-in-a-lifetime experiences will be remembered forever by the 229 lucky participants.

After thousands of hours of planning and impeccable execution (minus 30 missing Leis that showed up in Tommy’s work laptop bag a week later), the 3 volunteers tommy777, oliver2002, and xyzzy put their feet up at the Sofitel in Munich, ordered some Weisswurst, drank a liter of Gin, and agreed that they had pulled off the by far most amazing DO in Flyertalk’s 12 year history.

Christmas came and the three organizers started thinking. Can this be topped; can we make an even better experience?

The answer was yes.

The brand new 2010 Star Alliance Mega DO.

Yep, that’s right. We are doing it again and this year’s event will be even more Mega. By far!

October 31
We have a little predo Party at the Westin in NYC. SPG will put up a little program, details TBA once they are final.

November 1
We meet at JFK airport for a 'snack' and drinks (in the T1 LH lounge hosted by LH NYC, so be prepared to meet execs and listen to speeches) to board LH 405 to fly to FRA
[or for those who want to try LX: we board LX 15 (in T4) to fly to ZRH and then LX 1072 to FRA]
[or for those who want to try OS: we board OS 88 to fly to VIE and then LH 1235 to FRA]

November 2
We arrive at FRA, the participants starting the SMD2 in Europe join us from this point

Tours and foucs groups 14.00-18.00: LH will organise an event with their *A partners and the *A in the FRA area

Evening reception at 19.00: TBA: it an event similar to last year

November 3

We board LH440 (or CO 47 if you like to try CO) to fly to Houston

Evening reception at 19.00: will be a quiet event, to allow people to recover from the past flights the participants starting the SMD2 for the domestic US portion join us from this point

November 4

Continental day: CO will host us in IAH. Program: TBA, watch this space

Evening: we take a break from SMD 2 to join the FT awards event

November 5

aprox 6.00 am We board our charter flight in IAH to fly to PHX. Departure at aprox 7am.

The charter will be operated by a Continental 757-300 with 24 F and 192 Y config. Luggage check will be in IAH Terminal E at the group desk, and departure from the terminal like a normal sheduled departure. You will receive boarding passes the evening before.

On arrival in PHX we join US Airways for an event. Program: TBA, watch this space


aprox 12.30 pm: We depart PHX for PAE

TBD pm: we arrive in Paine Field at Boeing to tour the facilities and visit LH's latest aircraft type, the 748i

November 6
Participants start their their journey home:
Europeans take LH 491 (dep. 15.45) back to FRA the next day

Domestic participants take the CO plane back to IAH at 9 am from SEA (SEATAC). This is optional, you will have the option to request the additional leg if you desire. This will a be no-frill standard catering flight back as if you are flying regular CO.

La foerst naa merke til at du ikke har med den tilgjengelige prisen i oekonomi over atlanteren. Ca. 650USD koster det all in med Lufthansa. FRA-IAH//SEA-FRA.

Aa komme seg til og fra Frankfurt, kommer paa 150 dollar hver vei i tilslutning.
