Utsetter leveranse av 42 A320-er (Seattle P-I):
United Airlines, the world's second-largest carrier, plans to defer the purchase of 42 planes it has on order with Airbus to 2011 or later in an effort to revive profit with a smaller fleet, the carrier said in a Jan. 6 filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Chicago.
The Airbus A320 single-aisle planes on order are valued at more than $1 billion, United said in the filing. The Elk Grove, Ill.-based airline, a unit of UAL Corp., has scrapped some planes during Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization over the past three years. The airline didn't specify when the planes had been scheduled for delivery.
