Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has selected the A330neo for the carrier’s widebody fleet renewal programme. The initial agreements cover the acquisition of 20 A330-900 aircraft, with 10 to be purchased from Airbus and 10 to be leased from Dublin-based Avolon.

Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) is experiencing some passenger discontent after ending its pre-existing catering contract on September 1 without having locked in another provider. Consequently, some passengers are complaining about being served packaged food such as biscuits and bread on flights rather than the traditional in-flight meal. Malaysia Airlines has long enjoyed a strong reputation for its inflight catering.
Established in 2015 to oversee a restructuring of the national carrier, MAG recorded a net profit of 766 million ringgit ($162.6 million) for the year ended in December, swinging from a loss of 344 million ringgit the previous year. MAG also posted a 64% year-on-year increase in operating profit in 2023 to 889 million ringgit.
