Despite Western sanctions designed to stop Russian carriers from procuring parts for their Airbus and Boeing jets, Ural Airlines has imported over 20 of the U.S.-made devices since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the customs data show.
All told, at least $1.2 billion worth of aircraft parts flowed to Russian airlines from May last year - when most U.S. and European trade curbs and export bans over Ukraine were in force - to the end of June this year, a Reuters analysis of the customs records shows.
"On September 5, 2023, we received cash insurance settlement proceeds in the total amount of approximately $645 million in full settlement of our insurance claims under the Aeroflot group's insurance policies in respect of the 17 aircraft and five spare engines" on lease to Aeroflot and Rossiya Airline, AerCap said in a stock market filing.

S7 Airlines is set to reduce its autumn-winter flight schedule by 10-15% compared to the previous year due to difficulties in servicing its Airbus A320/A321neo aircraft. The airline is facing challenges with American Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engines on these planes, as repair services for these engines are not available in Russia or Iran.
Aeroflot (MOEX: AFLT ) will increase its autumn-winter schedule by 10% compared to last year, and its capacity will increase by 15%. In total, in the new season, which will operate from October 29, 2023 to March 30, 2024, the airline will offer passengers flights to 190 destinations (104 domestic), the Aeroflot press service told Kommersant.
Aeroflot's own flights will operate to 114 destinations. On the remaining routes, the operator will be Rossiya Airlines (part of the Aeroflot group).
Regular flights abroad in the autumn-winter schedule include:
- from Moscow to Mauritius and Shymkent (Kazakhstan);
- from St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg to Phuket;
- from St. Petersburg to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh;
- from Kazan, Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg to Dubai.
Aeroflot draws attention to the fact that the winter schedule will again include flights from Moscow to Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Havana. Flights from St. Petersburg to Moscow Domodedovo Airport will also resume. Flights to Havana and Domodedovo will be operated by Rossiya Airlines.
In addition, the airline will significantly increase the frequency of flights to a number of international destinations. We are talking, in particular, about flights from Moscow to Dubai, Bangkok, Phuket, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Male, Colombo and Mahe.
S7 Airlines plans to reduce its autumn-winter flight schedule by 10–15%, Kommersant has found out. The reason for the reduction was problems with maintenance of the Airbus A320/A321neo. The American P&W engines that are used on these aircraft are not repaired either in Russia or in Iran. According to Kommersant's interlocutors, 13 of the company's 39 such aircraft are under maintenance.
