Screening of Canadian Documentary "The Immortal Beaver" Friday, Nov. 28 - Sunday, Nov. 30
From The Museum of Flight
The famously dependable de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver aircraft is synonymous with flying in the wilderness. The boxy, single-engine float plane versions have been familiar sights in Seattle and the Puget Sound for decades. The Museum of Flight pays tribute to this iconic airplane during Thanksgiving weekend with film screenings and a Beaver fly-in. The Canadian documentary "The Immortal Beaver" will make its American premiere at the Museum Friday, Nov. 28 - Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. each day in the William M. Allen Theater. The film's producer, Arwen Hunter, will attend the Saturday, Nov. 29 screening, with a question and answer session following the movie. Also on Nov. 29, several Beavers are expected to be flown to the Museum and remain on display in the parking lot for the day. The film screenings are free with Museum admission.

A Canadian aircraft, the deHavilland Beaver redefined versatility and toughness for medium-sized passenger and cargo airplanes when it debuted in the 1940s. Pilots soon challenged its capabilities with take offs and landings from lakes, glaciers and short runways previously thought inaccessible by air. "The Immortal Beaver" follows the renovation of a Beaver named Olivia--from a dusty old derelict in the Arizona desert to a modern turboprop back in Canada. The documentary features interviews with those from the plane's past and enthusiasts including actor Harrison Ford. The DVD will be available for purchase in the Museum Store.
