The 717 aircraft is the biggest of Delta DAL Air Lines’ smaller problems. The mantra for airlines in this downturn is to save cash, so they are examining high expenses like aircraft lease payments.
Fortunately for Delta, it has less burden since it owns 79% of its aircraft, including almost all of its more costly widebodies.
But for the 193 aircraft it leases, the 717 dominates, accounting for 40% of Delta’s leased fleet. If Delta can reduce exposure to the 717s, its lease obligations significantly decrease. Delta might have a plan.
Delta will retire the MD-88 and MD-90 aircraft earlier than previously planned, with both aircraft types exiting the fleet effective June 2020. The accelerated retirement schedule of both aircraft is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic as we reduce capacity systemwide. Delta cut its overall active fleet by about half, parking more than 600 mainline and regional aircraft in the last two months.

Leste i en annen gruppe at det så langt ikke finnes konverteringslisens eller -tillatelse for 777-200 - inkl. LR. Det som finnes av 777-fraktere er alle bygd fraktere.
777-300 finnes det visst planer for .. den anses som en potensiell stor moneymaker for frakt.

Det er er konverteringsprogram på gang for 777-300ER, men da i stor grad tiltenkt som pakkefrakter. Jeg tviler på at vi ser et slikt program for -200 serien (LR eller ER). Problemet til 777 i passasjerversjon er mye likt som det som er problemet med A380 slik jeg har forstått det, gulvet i kabinen er rett og slett for svakt for å bære tyngre laster

This Delta bid came out last week. Says those that can’t hold anything(due to overages) will be placed in the lowest paying bid(B717 FO) and probably be furloughed Oct 1st.
