This ad ran once in January, was immediately pulled and will not run again. We were not aware the ad was on an ad group's Web site, but we have asked that they pull it. This campaign was meant to poke fun at slices of everyday life, but this execution clearly crossed the line and is in poor taste.



We extend our apologies to pilots and everyone in the airline industry.

AirTran may quit serving Bud, Bud Light

AirTran Airways is considering dropping Anheuser-Busch products from its flights because of a radio ad that makes fun of pilots for discount airlines.

The Bud Light ad is one of an award-winning series paying mock tribute to "Real Men of Genius" and was created by DDB Chicago.

The ad was aired only one time in January, but has remained on an ad-industry Web site and has been making the rounds among pilots.

"Mr. Discount Airline Pilot Guy," an announcer says in a syrupy voice, "your minimal experience flying a plane will never land you at a reputable airline. Luckily, you don't work for one."

The ad also questions the safety of low-cost carriers. "Sure, we're concerned for our lives," the announcer says. "Just not as concerned as saving nine bucks on a round-trip ticket to Fort Myers" — one of AirTran's destinations.

AirTran CEO Joe Leonard sent a letter to his counterpart at Anheuser-Busch last week calling the ad "highly offensive" and demanding an apology. AirTran spokesman Tad Hutcheson said the company is awaiting a response to the letter before deciding whether to quit serving Bud and Bud Light.
