Blue Air – the largest Romanian Ultra-Low-Cost airline and the newly born start-up regional carrier Air Connect has entered a strategic codeshare partnership to provide extended travel options to domestic and regional air travellers in Romania.

Based on the finalized MoU – the two airlines will launch as early as from 12 September 2022 onwards an extensive codesharing partnership aiming to optimize the costs, improve the connectivity and join forces to explore further synergies in the regional European market from Bucharest.

Under the agreement Blue Air will transfer the operation of selected domestic and international EU regional services to Air Connect.

Commercial control and risk for these routes remains with Blue Air and it will continue to be responsible for sales, marketing and customer support, but it expects to achieve potential cost savings and rationalizations in excess of 15-20% as part of the cooperation by deploying the regional aircraft type on the regional and commuter services.

Air Connect will be responsible for Operational Control.

Blue Air (Romania) (0B, Bucharest Otopeni) has suspended all flights departing from all Romanian airports effective immediately until at least September 12, 2022, blaming the seizure of its accounts by the country's Ministry of Environment.

The privately-owned carrier said all flights returning to Romania from airports abroad would continue to operate as scheduled on September 6. Once all the aircraft are back in the country, the airline will then halt all flight operations.

Shortly before today's decision to suspend all operations through September 12, Blue Air signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Air Connect (KS, Bucharest Otopeni) to establish a strategic partnership. Blue Air plans to transfer some of its domestic and EU routes to the regional carrier, which will operate them with an ATR72-600. The two carriers also plan to establish a code-share agreement, which will allow Blue Air to continue selling tickets for the transferred routes. The partnership is due to begin on September 12.

In this context, Wizz Air said it would bring five more aircraft to its Bucharest base starting in October, raising the number of aircraft serving this base to 17. The company will also increase its operational capacity in Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Bacau and Sibiu.

Om ikke Blue Air kommer seg på vingene igjen kan jo Bucuresti være en mulig destinasjon for Norwegian fra OSL og eventuelt ARN. Blue Air etterlater seg et hull der. Eller kanskje en gylden mulighet for Flyr til å prøve seg i et nytt segment, fremfor å fly vinge til vinge med allerede godt etablerte aktører på ruter som er godt dekket fra før.

…er vel noe med lønnsnivået også - ikke sikkert det blir like lønnsomt for Norwegian og Flyr.

Dessuten har man jo Wizz fra Torp, som vel tar mye av Bucuresti trafikken fra Oslo-området

Wizz Air har posisjonert seg bra her fra TRF men ikke umulig at det finnes grunnlag for ei rute til OTP fra OSL. Spesielt for Norwegian, om tidene tillater videreforbindelser innenlands.

Faktisk helårs i følge pressemeldingen, så de satser nok på at Blue ikke kommer tilbake [til OSL]
