Ja den rute bekræfter kun at CPH var bedste alternativ for diversion.
Fornuftig beslutning, idet det jo også har handlet om at få de strandede
passagerer videre l der destinationer. Det er jo ikke alle som "bare" skulle til LHR, så det er sikkert også en af grundene til at CPH blev valgt.
Husk også at QF "ofte" har brugt CPH som diversion punkt påflyvninger fra Østen

On Feb. 20, a British Airways [BAB] 747 (Flight 268 en route from Los Angeles to Heathrow) diverted itself to Manchester after declaring a Mayday for being short on fuel. Bearing in mind that Manchester isn't that far short of Heathrow after a continental USA and Transatlantic crossing and that the UK weather wasn't bad, what could have caused this last minute diversion? It would appear that the aircraft was advised by LAX air traffic control (ATC) just after departure that it was trailing 20 feet of flame from its #2 engine. Probably a surge, so it was given the rest of the day off. But the BA crew, with three good engines, decided to plow onward across the Atlantic. This is not uncommon for British Airways.
 
Tror faktisk at den typiske flyrute mellem HKG og LHR går rimelig tæt på CPH. I alt fald ikke mere end en 10 - 15 minutters flyvetid. For nogle år siden fløj jeg LHR-HKG og her gik ruten hen over det sydlige Sjælland.

Jeg har ofte fløjet HKG-LHR, og man flyver næsten altid over Sjælland, fx. (cirka) Greve-Ringsted-Skælskør.
 
Om man følger med på FlightRadar24 om man er oppe på natten så ser man at strekningen fra Køben og innover mot Helsinki er reine motorverien til og fra østen.

Da var den i "avisene"

A British Airways Boeing 747-400, registration G-CIVM performing flight BA-26 (dep Jul 29th) from Hong Kong (China) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was enroute about 7 hours into the flight, when the crew decided to shut an engine (RB211) down. The aircraft continued in the general direction of London leaving Russian Airspace at FL300 and step climbing to FL320 over Estonia, but then diverted to Copenhagen (Denmark) about 4 hours after the engine was shut down. The airplane landed safely on Copenhagen's runway 22L at 04:45L (02:45Z).
