Austrian Airlines Passes On Malev Bid
October 11, 2004
Austrian Airlines said on Monday that it would not bid for a 99.95 percent stake in Hungary's national airline Malev because the conditions of the sale are not attractive enough.
"After examining the conditions presented by the Hungarian government for the sale of the state airline (Malev) we have come to the conclusion that we will not participate in the privatization process," a spokeswoman for Austrian said.
Malev is a smaller central European airline with flights mainly in central and eastern Europe. It has some 36.2 billion forints (USD$152.4 million) of debt, most of which is guaranteed by the state.
