Latvian carrier Air Baltic has supplemented plans for new routes from its Riga and Vilnius bases this spring with further destinations including cities in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The airline’s additional services bring the number of routes it will add this spring to ten.
Air Baltic is to start operating to Warsaw, Bergen in Norway, Baku in Azerbaijan, and – subject to authorisation – the Georgian capital Tbilisi. The airline had previously disclosed that it would also begin operating to Dusseldorf and Simferopol from Riga.
Dusseldorf and Warsaw will also be among the airline’s four new routes from Vilnius, complemented by services to Stockholm and Budapest.
Air Baltic, which is closely associated with SAS Group, is acquiring an additional Boeing 737-500 to cope with the expansion.
“We are continuing to implement our strategic plan of performing as many direct flights as possible and furthering Riga’s development as an important aviation transit hub between east and west, as well as increasing the number of visitors coming into the Baltic states,” says Air Baltic president Bertolt Flick.
Air Baltic’s four weekly Riga-Dusseldorf flights will begin on 1 March. Warsaw will be served six times per week from 26 March, with twice-weekly flights to Simferopol starting 11 April.
Bergen will be served from 14 April, thrice-weekly, while both the Baku and Tbilisi routes will be operated twice-weekly from May.
Air Baltic will station the extra 737 at Vilnius, bringing its fleet to eight of the type, plus nine Fokker 50s. The route expansion takes its network to 30 destinations from Riga and 15 from Vilnius.
