Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin Int'l) is contemplating ending its transatlantic services from Shannon and moving the two A321-200NX(LR)s used to ply them to an airport in the United Kingdom, The Irish Times has reported.

According to sources, the Irish unit of IAG International Airlines Group has scouted British airports regarding their interest and their terms for the basing of aircraft for the transatlantic flights. It has received a total of six bids, including from Manchester Int'l and Birmingham Int'l, as well as four other undisclosed regional gateways in the UK.

Aer Lingus is looking to trial transatlantic routes out of the British airport in 2021 for an initial period of three years.

København-Manchester.

While no official announcement has yet been made regarding the opening up of Manchester as an international base to operate transatlantic flights, it is understood that two Airbus A330’s will take up UK markings in the coming weeks. EI-ELA and EI-EDY will become G-EILA and G-EIDY respectively. Two Airbus A321LR’s due for delivery this year will go directly to the UK register on delivery as G-EILG and G-EILH.

IATA: EG
ICAO: EUK
Callsign: Green Flight

De 4 planlagte maskinene i flåten

A330-300 G-EIDY tidl. EI-EDY
A330-300 G-EILA tidl. EI-ELA
A321LR G-EIRH tidl EI-LRH
A321LR G-EILG tidl EI-LRG

Aer Lingus (United Kingdom) (Belfast City) received its Operating Licence (OL) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on August 9, 2021, but has since deferred its launch from September 30 to October 20, 2021, due to the ongoing travel restrictions between the United Kingdom and the United States.
