Q&A SAS board decision Dec 17
1. Why is the decision regarding SGS’s future organization and affiliation being postponed?
There is major disagreement between the SAS management and the trade unions regarding how SGS, STS and Spirit will be organized in future.
2. Why has the process taken such a long time without any decision being made?
Although the work has been under way for four months and the matter has been thoroughly analyzed, not all control groups have succeeded in reaching a shared position. The decision affects many employees and it is unfortunate that we have such long processes.
3. Is it the fear of a strike at Christmas that has led to the postponement of a decision?
No, but when disagreement is great between management and trade unions on a matter that affects so many employees, it is wise to take more time to analyze, evaluate and define various organizational models before a decision is made.
4. Many employees have a feeling that SAS management wants an external solution and that the decision was made before the project had even started. Is that true?
No, that is incorrect. The trade unions have been involved for the entire, intensive four-month process and are aware of all of the facts relating to the various alternatives that form the basis for the decision.
5. Who decided to postpone the decision?
The SAS Board of Directors, following a proposal from SAS Group management.
6. When will the decision be made?
Our aim is for a decision to be made at the next Board meeting on February 5th.
7. Can the employees depend on that?
That is our clear ambition.
8. What decisions can we expect?
The alternatives that will be further evaluated by the Board of Directors: One alternative would see SGS remaining within the SAS Group as a separate company. Another alternative would be that SAS brings in an external partner from the ground handling sector as a part-owner.
9. What will be different then?
The trade unions and management need more time to find a solution on which there is agreement.
10. What will happen until then?
Management and the trade unions will continue to cooperate to find a solution.
11. How does SAS view the employees’ motivation in relation to the uncertainty about the future?
The management of the respective companies is aware of this challenge and will work to maintain motivation and minimize the consequences for customers.
