Continental offers a special program for same-day flight changes, specifically those made within 24 hours of your scheduled departure.
If you are on an unrestricted ticket, meaning your fare has no penalties for making changes, you are welcome to make changes free of charge so long as there are seats available.
If you are on a restricted ticket, meaning your fare allows changes for a penalty, you will be able to make flight changes within this 24-hour window for $50, or $25 for OnePass Platinum and Gold Elite members. This discounted change fee will apply to all itineraries wholly operated by Continental, including Continental Express*, Continental Connection* and Continental Micronesia. Even if there are no seats available for a confirmed reservation, you can still stand by. In these cases, the fee will still apply, but you will not be charged unless you actually get a seat on your alternate flight.
The same-day flight change option will be available within 24 hours before your original scheduled flight. Inside of this timeframe, you can try to take an alternate flight so long as it departs no more than 12 hours from when you are making the request.
Same-day flight changes may be confirmed by calling your local Continental Airlines reservations office, at any airport kiosk or with a Continental airport representative. Later in 2008, this option will also be offered when checking in online.

FAQs
Does this option apply to both domestic and international travel?
Yes, but your original and desired itineraries must be wholly operated by Continental Airlines, Continental Express*, Continental Connection* and Continental Micronesia.
If I have an unrestricted ticket, will this policy apply to me?
No. The same-day change policy applies only when you are traveling on a restricted fare. If you are traveling on a fare that does not have any penalties for changes, you may confirm changes and stand by at any time without a fee.
What types of tickets are excluded from same-day changes?
The only fares that are excluded from same-day changes are those that do not allow changes of any kind, such as continental.com Weekend Specials and tickets bought through certain wholesale outlets, like those where you do not know the identity of the airline until after you buy the ticket.
Can I change my flight to the day before or the day after?
Yes, but only when you make the change within 24 hours before your original scheduled departure, and your new itinerary departs within 12 hours of the request.
Can I change to a later flight with this policy?
Yes, but to do so you must make the change prior to your originally scheduled departure in order to maintain the value of your ticket.
Can I change my departure or arrival airports?
No. The same-day change fee offer does not apply when changing your departure or arrival airport. In these cases, the full change fee associated with your fare plus any applicable fare difference will apply.
Can I change the routing of my itinerary?
When your change can be confirmed, yes, provided the new routing is permitted by the fare you purchased and there are no changes to your origin or destination airports. You may not, however, change your routing when standing by.
If I have already checked in for my flight, may I still take advantage of this option?
Yes, but only if you have not already presented your bags for check in at the airport.
What are my options if my desired flight is not available?
If your desired flight is not available to be confirmed, you may stand by for the same fee, which would only be charged if you ultimately get a seat. The stand by travel option applies only on the day of departure, and no changes in routing are permitted. Requests to travel standby may only be handled at an airport kiosk or with a Continental airport representative. If I stand by, but do not clear and end up taking my original flight, will I be charged?
No. You will only be charged if you ultimately clear a seat assignment on a flight other than your original flight.
Instead of paying a fee, can I take my chances and stand by for free?
No. The only time you may stand by for free is when your fare does not have any penalties for making changes, or when you are standing by involuntarily due to a flight irregularity.
If I miss my flight, am I eligible to use this policy?
No, our same-day change fee only applies to changes made before the original scheduled departure of your flight. However, if you miss your flight, you will be permitted to stand by for any alternative flight up to two hours after your original flight for no charge, provided there is one. Otherwise, you will be subject to the full change penalties that apply to your ticket.
If I am on an upgraded ticket, will I lose my upgrade?

Will anyone other than OnePass Gold and Platinum members be eligible for the half-price $25 fee?

If my itinerary has three or more flights, am I still eligible?
Yes, but when your itinerary involves three or more flights, your change may only be confirmed by calling your local Continental Airlines reservations office or with a Continental airport representative.
May I pay cash?
Cash will only be accepted when the change is available to be confirmed, but not for standby. If you are paying in cash, you will have to confirm your change with a Continental airport representative.
May I confirm a change if I have a paper ticket?
Yes, but your change may only be confirmed with a Continental airport representative.
