MUMBAI: Two Air India pilots put the lives of 166 passengers on a Bangkok-Delhi flight in danger by taking a 40-minute break from the cockpit and getting two flight attendants to operate the plane in their absence. Their stunt almost ended in disaster after one of the flight attendants accidentally turned off the auto-pilot, forcing the pilots to rush back to their seats.

Det virker som India er et land som jobber iherdig og hardt for at man skal sitte igjen med inntrykket om at de virkelig bare klarer å rote til det meste.

De gjør det, og rimelig vellykket også. Godt man jobber i et flyselskap som for det meste kun har en cabin attendant ombord .. ;)

The first officer unintentionally disconnected the autopilot while flight attendants were in the cockpit, the autopilot was quickly re-engaged and the aircraft continued to a safe landing in Delhi.

Uheldigvis finnes det flere rare episoder rundt om iverden som er en fare for sikkerheten til

Vet ikke helt hva som er ei fjær eller 10 høns i denne saken:
Air India released a statement stating, that the aircraft was under control by flight crew at all times, at no time the flight attendants were at the controls of the aircraft. However, two cabin crew had a prolonged stay in the cockpit, during their "overstay" the first officer - in his seat - accidentally disconnected the autopilot probably as result of distraction while interacting with cabin crew and quickly re-connected the autopilot. Both flight crew and both cabin crew have been suspended pending investigation.
Virker ikke så veeeldig troverdig den forklaringa som kom fra ledelsen kan man si.

The inside dope. F/o on toilet break. As per SOP one C/C called in but invited to take P2 seat. Shortly after second C/c walks in , incredibly offered the P1 seat. Capt standing and teaching them how to fly a A-321 at 33000 ft. F/O comes back from toilet and all resume normal duties. Insiders say the F/O reported the matter to Flight Safety on arrival at DEL.
Capt Soni and the two c/c are under suspension.

Årsaken var at de to pilotene ble trøtte, satte på autopiloten og overlot spakene til to av flyvertinnene om bord.
Katastrofen var skremmende nær da pilotene tok seg en lur iflyets business class, og en av flyvertinnene ved et uhellslo av autopiloten.
Det hender at piloter sovner på jobb, men vanligvis sitter de i cockpit, og med en pilot-kollega som er våken.
Men på flyturen mellom Bangkok og New Delhi 12. april i år, sto livene ifare for 166 personer da pilotene om bord på Air Indias flight
AI 133 (Airbus 321) forlot cockpit for å ta seg en hvil.
Ifølge avisen The Times of India ble to av de kabinansatte plassert bak spakene, etter en kort instruksjon fra en av pilotene.
Uhell
Etter rundt 40 minutter skal en av flyvertinnene ved et uhell ha kommet borti autopiloten, som deretter slo seg av, og flyet begynte raskt å
miste høyde.
Flyvertinnene vekket de to sovende pilotene som deretter kastet seg tilbake i cockpit for å redde flyet ut av den kritiske situasjonen.
Autopiloten om bord på et fly sørger for at flyet holder riktig høyde, stø kurs og rett fart. Men det er samtidig et teknisk instrument som
hele tiden må overvåkes, hvis det plutselig ikke skulle fungere lenger.
Pilotenes oppgave er selvsagt også å holde kontakt med flyvelederne, som plutselig kan komme med ny og viktig informasjon, som igjen
krever at autopiloten må omprogrammeres.
En annen kabinansatt rapporterte hendelsen til ledelsen i Air India, og alle de fire involverte mistet jobbene sine. En kilde iselskapet sier tilThe Times of India at de fire har «hånet flysikkerheten på verste vis» med sine handlinger.

The first officer unintentionally disconnected the autopilot while flight attendants were in the cockpit, the autopilot was quickly re-engaged and the aircraft continued to a safe landing in Delhi.

India's press, led by the "Times of India" and "Mumbai Mirror", reports that the first officer had taken a toilet break, a flight attendant had been asked to enter the cockpit according to standard operating procedures to monitor the captain and had taken the first officer's seat. The captain then ordered a second flight attendant to the cockpit, left his seat, instructed her to take the left hand seat, briefed both flight attendants how to operate the aircraft on autopilot and left the cockpit. When one of the flight attendants accidentally disconnected the autopilot about 40 minutes later, both flight crew rushed to the cockpit and recovered the aircraft.

On May 4th 2013 India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said, that the crew consisted of two pilots and 7 flight attendants. Two of the flight attendants were on the flight deck for almost the whole flight in violation of safety rules. The autopilot was briefly disconnected when the aircraft was enroute at FL330. A member of the crew reported the incident to the DGCA under the voluntary disclosure scheme.


Synd at ikke VG sjekker fakta i litt bedre, men da hadde kansje ikke historien vært like sensasjonell................

Det hele er jo skrevet om til å bli litt mer leser- og underholdningsvennlig i en norsk avis. Dette er langt fra det verste eksempelet jeg har sett, til VG sitt "forsvar".

Ganske sprøtt at begge pilotene var borte fra flightdeck i 40 minutter!

Men gale ting skjer ikke bare i India, men også i Brasil ...

The airline initially claimed those photos were taken on the ground, but admitted after analysis of the photos, that the aircraft was in flight evidenced by engine instruments showing the engines operating and the gear lever in the up position as well as the primary flight and navigation displays showing the aircraft in cruise flight. Both pilots were fired as result of the occurrence, the chief flight attendant was dismissed later as well.

Brazil's ANAC have opened an investigation into the occurrence.

Er det egentlig noen selskaper som tillater dette?

Kanskje jeg skal bli flyvert hvis jeg ikke blir pilot, så kan jeg få flydd litt :P
