Ny Norwegian-base: Madrid

Fra den offisielle pressemeldingen (Google Translate):

The company will carry out, in due time, the commercial launch of flights between both countries, on a date yet to be finalized. This can be considered the first firm step of the company in the market between Spain and South America. [...] With this award, the market between both countries will be divided as follows from the Spanish side:

+ Iberia, ten weekly frequencies;

+ Norwegian and Air Europa, seven frequencies each;

As already announced, the company intends to open a collective procedure before the winter season, which we understand would include a restructuring of the company for which we do not know the scope yet.
What we have known, from sources other than Norwegian but of absolute reliable, is that Norwegian intends to definitively close the base of Madrid, going from 4 to 1 single plane between the next weeks and January, and basing 0 planes from January, which we understand implies the closure of the Madrid base. This plan seems to be done in 2 stages, which would create more stress to the workers and would restrict the rights of the workers.

Given the information and the impact on workers, we have not been able of not to share this information despite not having received it formally from the company, which is what would have been desirable.
We are aware of the stir and concern that this will generate, not only in Madrid, but in all the bases, and we ask for your patience, given the circumstances, until in the next few days we receive more information, this time already in writing and from the company.

We do not know if there are other plans for the Spanish bases, and we can expect more restructuring movements accompanying this one. The only information we have is the lack of 737 and 787 airplanes due to the problems we already know, and consequently makes us intuit that this movement will not come isolated.
We will work to minimize this impact as much as possible within the consultation period.
