Indus Airways, a proposed domestic Indian low cost carrier, announced (14 January) the following start-up plans:
Launch: April 2005;
Fleet: Five leased 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145s;
Bases: Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar;
Network: Initially targeting north Indian cities (Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar) and plans to later extend into southern India;
Fares: Up to 40% below full service carriers;
Start-up Capital: INR1 billion;
Investors: Group of non-resident Indians and entrepreneurs, led by India's Mohan Meakins Breweries head, Kapil Mohan;
Approvals: Awaiting No Objection Certificate from Indian Civil Aviation Ministry;
Frills: “The frills of flying would not be withdrawn” - senior airline official.
