On Saturday, August 16, 2025, a Finnair ATR 72-500 aircraft (OH-ATE), flight #AY1175, was involved in a ground incident at Helsinki Vantaa Airport. While preparing for departure to Gdańsk, Poland, the aircraft's right engine propeller struck a stationary ground power unit (GPU) on the apron. Besides the damage to the GPU and the propeller, the collision caused damage to the aircraft's fuselage from the blades. There were no injuries among the 68 passengers and crew on board.
According to reports, Juho Pirhonen, who was onboard, said that during engine start, the plane rolled forward and hit the GPU and speculated that the brake may not have been engaged.
Emergency services responded promptly, dispatching 15 units to the scene. The passengers were disembarked and transferred back to the terminal. As a result of the incident, the flight was canceled.
