Through-check-in of passengers and baggage from Finnair flights
The regulations applied to air transportation have tightened significantly during recent years. This has caused airlines to reconsider their responsibility issues. While air traffic is growing and the security measures are becoming tighter, it has become necessary for the airlines to specify the liabilities of passengers and baggage between airlines.
Finnair has decided to apply an international practice and specify the principles of through-check-in of baggage. Due to the liability questions, baggage will in the future not automatically be transferred to the connecting flight, unless it has been agreed upon between the airlines. From March 25, 2007, baggage will be automatically transferred between Finnair, oneworld airlines’ and other code-share partners’ flights. Baggage will also be transferred to other airlines’ flights, if the routing is issued on the same ticket.
Finnair takes care of passenger’s through-check-in in all cases where the customer has an agreement of carriage with Finnair. This agreement requires that the customer holds a Passenger Ticket and Baggage Check, or an electronic ticket, as defined in the Conditions of carriage and issued by Finnair or on its behalf.
According to this definition, Finnair continues to check in passengers and their baggage to the final destination as indicated by the flight ticket, provided that it constitutes one single agreement of carriage with Finnair.
Finnair will also continue to coordinate the services of different airlines and complete through-check-in of reservations on separate tickets – within the accepted minimum connecting times – if the connections are:
1) AY–AY connections (both with Finnair flight numbers)
2) AY– oneworld connections (Finnair flight number–oneworld flight number)
3) AY–code-share connection (Finnair flight number–Finnair code-share partner’s flight number).
Through-check-in will not be completed to other airlines from March 25, 2007, if the routing is issued on separate tickets
Reservations made with other than the above mentioned airlines – either through a travel agent or on the Internet – form a separate agreement of carriage between the customer and the airline in question. In the future Finnair will complete through-check-in to the final destination of these separate agreements only to the extent they include a valid agreement of carriage with Finnair, according to the conditions mentioned above.
The minimum connecting times (MCT) do not apply if the flights are issued on separate tickets. The passenger should be informed at the time of reservation that from March 25, 2007, the passenger will be checked in and the baggage tagged only to the final destination of each agreement of carriage and the minimum connecting times do not apply. The passenger has to check-in himself and his baggage to the next flight issued on a separate ticket.
