Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) ordered fifty B737 MAX 8 aircraft from Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) last month. In a filing to the Indonesian stock exchange, Garuda said the aircraft will be delivered between 2017 and 2023 and would serve as replacements for its fleet of seventy-four B737-800s.
"This revitalization program is due to the end of the lease term for the airline's existing 12-year-average B737-800 aircraft," Garuda said.
At present, Garuda is in the process of retiring its fleet of B737 Classics which now consists of just three B737-500s.
