FC Barcelona flies with Finnair
The football club FC Barcelona is heading to its US tour in August with an
aircraft hired from Finnair. The team has rented an MD-11 with 282 seats with
its entire crew for almost two weeks.
"The event is rather unique for Finnair, because the wide body aircrafts are
rarely vacant. There are not many airlines in the world, which can rent out
these kinds of aircrafts in the middle of the summer. This was possible for
Finnair as the company is going through a fleet renewal, where new planes are
being received and some of the old ones removed", Leisure Flight's Assistant
Manager John Virkkala says.
Logos of FC Barcelona were put on the plane during last week at the Finnair
Technical Services. The crew of the FCB private charter flight includes two
captains, a co-pilot, two pursers and eight flight attendants.
"The first flight with FC Barcelona is behind us already. The journey from
Barcelona to Los Angeles went really well as did the first game, where FC
Barcelona beat Los Angeles Galaxy", told the managing purser of the cabin Sami
Sievä.
The aircraft will in addition fly to Seattle and San Francisco at the least.
"Around 5% of the revenue of Leisure Flights comes from private charter
flights, which we have been flying already from the 1970s", explains Virkkala.
