Responding to demand, US airlines have brought about 450 passenger aircraft out of storage since mid-May, bringing the combined US in-service fleet to about 4,000 aircraft, Cirium fleets data shows.
That bump – about 13% from the mid-May low of 3,600 active passenger aircraft – came as US cities loosened lockdowns and lifted stay-at-home orders.
By comparison, US carriers operated about 6,700 passenger aircraft at the beginning of 2020, before the global downturn, according to Cirium.

ondon City Airport has reopened to the public after it was closed for nearly three months because of Covid-19.
Commercial and private flights stopped operating on 25 March due to travel restrictions and a collapse in demand.
Government agencies and the military have been using the east London airport instead.
On Sunday, the first commercial flight to restart the airport was from the Isle of Man, which landed at about 18:00 BST.
Initially flights will be restricted to those within the UK and Ireland.
Services to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dublin are expected to return next month, while new routes to Teesside and Dundee will be launched on 6 July. European flights to destinations such as Ibiza, Florence, Malaga and Palma are expected to resume in the coming weeks.

“It’s a vacuum cleaner strategy,” said travel analyst Henry Harteveldt of Atmosphere Research Group. “They just want to suck up whatever traffic is out there.”
