Fra Business Traveller, 13JAN:
Sybarites will flock to a vast Bliss spa that has opened at the W New York hotel.
The 23,000-foot spa, called Bliss49, is the largest Bliss spa to date. The ever-popular Bliss Triple Oxygen Treatment Facial ($150) is sure to pull in the punters, but a wine and brownie buffet will be the clincher for some. A computer game system and fridge full of beer should help to keep the men entertained.
Bliss49 features a beauty boutique and high-tech manicure and pedicure lounge, where customers can watch DVDs shown on a flat-screen via earphones. Other facilities include 17 treatment rooms, a gym, hammam, steam showers, and Spa Lofts operated by the hotel for guests that want to stay overnight.
Treatments on offer include microdermabrasion facials (from $115), popular with celebrities including Victoria Beckham, and the two-hour ginger rub massage ($220).
The Bliss brand, now owned by the W hotel parent company, Starwood, is a luxury beauty product and treatment range once owned by the Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton group and started by skincare expert Marcia Kilgore in 1996. There are four Bliss spas currently operating – three in New York and one in London.
Bliss products already feature in the bathrooms of W hotels, and in spring 2005 more Bliss spas will open in W properties in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. Go to www.whotels.com.
