FORT WORTH, Texas, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AMR Corporation (NYSE: AMR), the parent company of American Airlines, Inc., today reported a net loss of $286 million for the second quarter of 2011, or $0.85 per share, compared to a net loss of $11 million, or $0.03 per share, in the second quarter of 2010.

The Company's second quarter performance was negatively impacted by fuel prices that increased 31 percent compared to the second quarter 2010. Including the impact of fuel hedging, AMR paid on average $3.12 per gallon for jet fuel in the second quarter of this year versus $2.37 per gallon in the second quarter 2010. As a result, the Company paid $524 million more for fuel in the second quarter 2011 than it would have paid at prevailing prices from the corresponding prior-year period.

On a GAAP basis, UAL reported a second-quarter 2011 net profit of $538 million or $1.39 per diluted share.

UAL consolidated passenger revenue increased 10.1 percent in the second quarter of 2011 compared to the pro forma results for the same period in 2010. Second-quarter 2011 consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) increased 9.0 percent compared to the pro forma results year-over-year.

Second-quarter 2011 consolidated fuel expense, excluding the impact of hedges, increased 45.2 percent, or $1.1 billion, year-over-year on a pro forma basis.

Spirit Airlines overskudd på $16.9 millioner i Q2
Net income for the quarter was $16.9 million, or $0.41 per share, compared to last year's loss of $10.1 million, or a loss of $0.38 per share. Pro-forma net income surged to $26.8 million, or $0.37 per share, from $2.8 million, or $0.04 per share.

Quarterly total operating revenue increased 55.6 percent to $275.9 million from last year's $177.4 million. Passenger revenues increased 42.8 percent.
