Aegean Airlines går inn i Star Alliance 30. juni og blir med det partner i SAS EuroBonus.

Star Alliance seeks to fill in areas of the globe that are underserved by member carriers. For Star Alliance, Greece is a niche market that is building Athens into a major hub airport with growing connection traffic.

Aegean har forævrig også tatt over Olympic og de to selakapene skal slås sammen .. pussig intet er nevnt om dette ettersom navnet Olympic skal brukes i fremtiden.

Da ser det ut som om at det fusjonerte selskapet (Aegean+Olympic) Olympic vil bli medlem av Star Alliance når fusjonen er et faktum.

Aegean operates a fleet of 30 aircraft covering 26 domestic and 28 international short/medium-haul routes with more than 150 daily flights. It became Greece's largest carrier in terms of passengers in 2008 and is awaiting approval from the European Commission to merge with rival Olympic Airways, which had been in alliance talks with SkyTeam.

"They lost this one," Albrecht joked to ATW, confirming that the enlarged entity (which will carry the Olympic name) will be a full Star member if the planned merger wins regulatory approval.
