Hva er status her?

Mode S and ACAS Programme

Introduction

Secondary Surveillance Radar Mode Select (SSR Mode S) is a development and enhancement of 'classic SSR'.

Aircraft Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) improves air safety by acting as a "last resort" method for preventing mid-air or near collisions between aircraft.
ACAS II is the latest operational development of this technology.

Mode S

There are 2 levels of Mode S functionality:

- Elementary Surveillance (ELS), initially being implemented by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

- Enhanced Surveillance (EHS), initially being implemented by France, Germany and the United Kingdom.

In brief, the latest date for aircraft compliance with Mode S ELS/EHS is 31 March 2007. In the case of EHS this is subject to operators applying for an exemption from the Mode S Exemption Coordination Cell (ECC). Exceptionally, an exemption may be granted for a small proportion of an operators’ EHS applicable fleet until 31 March 2009. Separate comparable exemption arrangements apply for State aircraft.

Access Mode S site for full details

ACAS

ACAS-II implementation has been organised in 2 phases:

- Phase 1, with effect from 1 January 2000 for all civil fixed-wing turbine-engine aircraft having a maximum take-off mass exceeding 15 000 kg, or a maximum approved passenger configuration of more than 30.

- Phase 2, with effect from 1 January 2005, but with a transition phase until 31 March 2006, for all civil fixed-wing turbine-engine aircraft having a maximum take-off mass exceeding 5 700 kg, or a maximum approved passenger configuration of more than 19.
