United shows interest in Flyi's Independence Air assets

United Airlines has indicated it may bid for some of Washington Dulles-based Independence Air’s assets.
The US major will not disclose what it will seek from the bankrupt low-cost carrier, but in a court filing yesterday it asked its own bankruptcy judge to allow for a bid.
Independence Air’s parent company Flyi was created from the remnants of Atlantic Coast Airlines, a regional feeder that held a major contract with Dulles-hubbed United.
Based on reports in the Washington Post, United joins Mesa Air Group in seeking some, if not all, of Flyi’s assets. The Post says Mesa intends to relaunch the Dulles carrier as a regional feeder much like its former incarnation.
Flyi is not commenting on specific bids, but has confirmed that several investors have shown an interest in either a takeover, part purchase or investment in the bankruptcy low-cost carrier.
A self imposed December 16 deadline for bids has been dropped by Flyi.
