SAS expands cooperation with SWISS

When SWISS joins Star Alliance at the beginning of April, this will benefit Scandinavian Airlines' customers. As of April 6, the two airlines' timetables between Scandinavia and Switzerland will be coordinated and all flights will have both of the companies' route numbers, on a code-share basis.

On March 26, cooperation with SWISS got off to an early start on the Bangkok-Singapore-Bangkok route. The timetable was optimized with good connections to Scandinavian Airlines' departures to and from Bangkok.

Now when SWISS becomes an official member of Star Alliance, cooperation will be expanded to apply to all flights between the Scandinavian capitals and Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland. As a result, the companies' customers will gain access to an increased number of departures. During weekdays, for example, there will be a total of six departures in each direction on the Copenhagen-Zurich route and four departures in each direction on the Stockholm-Zurich route.

Cooperation at more locations
The collaboration could eventually develop so that it also applies to other routes.

Within the SAS Group, Blue1 and Spanair will also enter into code-share cooperation with SWISS. This cooperation will commence during April.

Those with a good knowledge of history will undoubtedly remember that SAS and Swissair had earlier cooperated with each other within the framework of the European Quality Alliance, EQA, during the early 1990s.

SPANAIR AND SWISS INTERNATIONAL AIR LINES ESTABLISH A MARKETING AGREEMENT

From the 1st of May 2006, Spanair launches its new routes from Madrid and Barcelona to Zurich in collaboration with SWISS

Madrid, 31st March 2006 - Spanair and Swiss International Air Lines announce their new marketing relationship offering code-share flights as and from April connecting Spain and Switzerland. This agreement is a bilateral co-operation on both carriers' networks offering passengers the possibility to fly direct from both Madrid and Barcelona to Zurich and v.v. By May 1st the agreement will be fully operational with 5 daily frequencies from Monday to Friday between Spain's capital city Madrid and Zurich and 4 daily frequencies on the same days between Barcelona and Zurich. At the weekends, passengers can also avail of quick city breaks.

"We are more than happy to formalize this relationship with Swiss International Air Lines and welcome them as a valued partner within our network. Zurich is a new international destination for Spanair and together with SWISS we look forward to providing a top quality product and service to our mutual passengers," says Lars Nygaard CEO for Spanair. "Furthermore we are convinced that this will indeed cater for the business needs of our clients travelling from Spain and Switzerland and allow them to travel in comfort and style at convenient times," he adds. By means of this collaboration Spanair will also offer several daily frequencies on flights operated by Swiss International Air Lines between Zurich and Geneva to the cities of Palma de Mallorca and Malaga. Other routes beyond Madrid, Barcelona and Zurich are presently being evaluated for the future. "We are glad to start a co-operation with our Star Alliance partner Spanair and to launch these new code share services. This allows us to strengthen our position in the important Spanish market," says Harry Hohmeister, Chief Network and Distribution Officer at SWISS. Coinciding with the incorporation of Swiss International Air Lines as a member of the Star Alliance network on April 1st, both companies' passengers will enjoy reciprocal frequent flyer benefits i.e. accrual and redemption of points on their respective programmes, Spanair Plus and Miles & More. Access to both companies' lounges all over Spain and Switzerland, one-ticket itineraries and through baggage check-in are also some of the new features granted to customers. Spanair was founded in 1986 and is at present the first alternative in Spanish air transport, offering more than 600 daily flights operated with a fleet of 64 aircraft and in code share with its partners, to 150 destinations. Since April 1, 2003 the company is a full member of Star Alliance, the biggest and most prestigious airline network in the world.
