Har både eurobonus og flying blue.. men flyr egentlig ikke så mye at det har den helt store betydningen. Innen Europa flyr jeg stort sett lavprisselskap.

Da hadde jeg selvsagt valgt KLM. Er vel endel poeng å hente på en Japan-tur.
Og KLM er i allefall fullt på høyde med Lufthansa på economy. JAL har jeg ikke prøvd.

Har stort sett gode erfaringer med KLM! Bruker vel 777 til Japan såvidt jeg vet, og den er flott!

An airline with a first-rank approach to service

Long-haul travel holds few positive surprises these days. The last time I was truly impressed by a new concept was when Lufthansa introduced its wireless broadband service and since then the only other thing that's truly stood out is Asiana's squeezy tubes of chilli paste.

Suffering from a severe bout of Tokyo withdrawal late last week, I asked my PA, Gaby, to book me on the late British Airways service to Tokyo and bring me back 72 hours later. I reckoned three nights at the Park Hyatt and two solid days to visit old haunts and uncover some new ones would lead to an immediate and complete recovery.
Attempting to co-ordinate my escape from the jamon counter of the Semon gourmet shop in Barcelona, Gaby informed me that for some reason BA had suspended its late flight for two weeks and that my only option was either to try JAL or ANA. The airlines had identical departure times at 7pm, so I voted along alliance lines and went with ANA as JAL had only just announced that it was planning to join Oneworld.
Weaving my way through the shopping mall otherwise known as Heathrow, I decided to decline ANA's invitation to United's Red Carpet lounge and made straight for the gate. I'm quite convinced the later the departure time the slower the passenger. Air travellers may not be at their sharpest in the early hours but they at least make some attempt to walk through airports with a sense of purpose. Evening travellers shuffle along like they have all the time in the world, occasionally stopping to stare at stuffed bagels as if it's the first time they've seen them.
Arriving at the gate, I was shown straight on to the 747-400 and took my window seat in Club ANA on the lower deck. I really had no idea what I was in for but the elaborately tied pastel neck scarves and half-belted blazers worn by the all-female, predominantly Japanese, crew members was an excellent start. While the interior wasn't quite how I'd decorate my 747, it was neutral and sufficiently free of design gimmicks to make it a pleasant enough place to spend 11 hours.
When the service kicked in somewhere over Norfolk and the flight attendants took to the aisles, the sober interior colour palette suddenly made sense. Rather than donning the somewhat sombre tunic-style aprons favoured by most other carriers, the ANA crew came rattling out of the galleys in hot-toned, wraparound pinnies that were clearly co-ordinated to match the regulation eyeshadow, blusher and lipstick. While it all seemed a bit Hello-Kitty-plays-stewardess at first, I quickly reminded myself that I was, after all, on Japan's number two carrier and this is exactly how it should be - perfect make-up, dinky uniforms and gracious service.
The abdominal crunch board-style sleeper seat was a bit of disappointment because it was the same seat that frequent travellers detest and most airlines have fallen for. Seat aside, however, the next 11 hours were filled with pleasant surprises that other carriers seem to have deleted from their service or missed all together. Highlights included thick, fluffy slippers rather than the limp pieces of cardboard and cloth that other carriers try to pass off as footwear; for those periods when the whole aircraft turns into a refrigerator somewhere just west of Vladivostok there are cute, cropped, navy knitted cardigan-style robes to keep the chill off, a proper feather pillow and an ultra-light goose down duvet; there was full-size glassware and ceramics instead of children's portion service items; for round-the-clock orientation, each cabin featured orange-lit digital clocks displaying the time at point of departure and Tokyo time along with a countdown to arrival.
Rather than distributing ugly toiletry kits full of useless items that most passengers are unlikely to use, the crew came round with a pick-and-mix selection of items that might demand more time of the crew but undoubtedly saves an enormous amount because passengers only take what they need.
The most inspired touch of all, however, was tucked away on the top shelf of the bathroom. Given the dry air and all the static electricity that comes with seat covers and other assorted fabrics in an aircraft interior, I've long wondered why airlines don't offer more in the way of haircare in the bathrooms. A considerate soul at ANA was not only thinking about the passenger but also their colleagues when they decided to load bottles of Kanebo hair tonic on the aircraft. For the jet-lagged salarymen there's a liquid solution for hair rage and for the crew there's a tidier-looking group of passengers to bow sayonara to.
On their own, none of these features is particularly remarkable but bundled together they suggest a superior level of attention to detail with the basics that is sadly lacking at most European long-haul carriers and has all but vanished from the the 767s and 777s that fly for America's legacy airlines.

Takker for råd.
Etter mange og lange overveielser falt valget til slutt på KLM.
I slutt-evalueringen stod det mellom KLM og JAL. Valget falt på KLM delvis pga. at de flyr 777 som er mitt favoritt-fly, men også litt pga. bonuspoeng.
Takk for tipset om nødutgang SQ777.

KL og LH er helt på bunn på min Y-liste, JL har jeg ikke prøvd.

Ser ut til at de flyr til LHR, CDG, AMS, FRA, ZRH og SVO. Roma flyr de kanskje også til. Vet ikke om jeg har fått med meg alle. Du kan sjekke her

uten at jeg egentlig har noen som helst bakgrunn for å uttale meg om noen av selskapene, vet5 jeg at en kamerat av meg hadde en "dårlig opplevelse" med JAL. Han og en kamerat av han igjen fløy JAL fra AMS til Tokyo i fjor sommer. De ble plassert på vindus- og midtsete, mens midtgangsetet ble "okkupert" av en japaner som heiv innpå sovepiller før avgang, og sov hele turen.

På turen tilbake spurte de pent om en to-seter.
