Finnair, JAL to codeshare
Nicholas Ionides, Singapore (30Nov05, 08:10 GMT, 158 words)
Finnair and its future Oneworld alliance partner Japan Airlines (JAL) have agreed to codeshare on select flights within Europe and within Japan.
JAL says in a statement that codesharing is to begin on 19 December and that in future the two carriers also plan to link their frequent-flyer programmes. Finnair is an existing member of Oneworld while JAL recently announced that it would join the alliance.
The agreement will see JAL placing its code on Finnair-operated flights between the Finnish carrier’s Helsinki base and both Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Frankfurt in Germany. JAL does not currently serve Helsinki but has non-stop daily services between Tokyo and both Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
Finnair will in turn codeshare on JAL-operated domestic flights between Osaka and Sapporo, between Fukuoka and both Osaka and Tokyo, and between Tokyo and Osaka. Finnair has services of its own to Osaka and Tokyo and plans to add Nagoya as its third Japanese destination next year.
