On 12 December 2018, HNA Group announced that it has signed the "Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation of Beijing Capital Airlines Co., Ltd." with Beijing Capital Tourism Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as BTG Group). Capital Airlines said that according to the new cooperation agreement, the two parties will increase their support for Capital Airlines through equity transfer, capital increase and share expansion, etc., and BTG Group will become one of the major shareholders of Capital Airlines.

Cathay Pacific has delayed its first payment to HNA for the purchase of HK Express, a low-cost airline based in Hong Kong, according to sources familiar with the matter. Cathay was due to pay HK$1.2 billion (US$153 million) to the debt-strapped Chinese conglomerate on May 8, but claimed it was not obligated since HK Express has failed to dispose of Boeing 747 freighter aircraft it acquired under murky circumstances, the sources say.

The HNA Group airline said its debt was HK$49.1 billion (US$6.3 billion) at December 31, 2021 of which HK$30.1 billion is subject to the restructuring plan. The full-service carrier hopes to retain 20 of the 53 aircraft in its fleet
