MILAN MALPENSA INTERNATIONAL OPEN DAYS - CLIPPER DAYS - September 2010

This airport will once again open its doors (7th edition) to the aviation enthusiast in September 2010.

After last years experience (hundreds of requests and more than 150 guests from all over the world present for the tour) and the positive experience during 2008 and 2009 with 2 different dates, we decided to confirm the same format with 2 days but to concentrate both events on the same week end.
So the event will be scheduled for the next two days:

Saturday September 11th, 2010
Sunday September 12th, 2010
Formula 1 GP will be held in Monza during the same week end, hopefully this will help us in having some "unusual" planes on the ground during the days.

We decided also to confirm the format of the day: Proceedings commence no later than 10.15 hrs and terminate circa 18.00 hrs.
The whole day will be spend in the now-famous grass area close to the Terminal 1 where all departing aircrafts from Terminal 1 have to pass or close to de-icing spot (according to active runway and particular planes' position).
Stops in Cargo area & Terminal 2 area if possible and needed.
Stops on T1 ramp are not permitted: in case a special plane will justify a short stop, the bus will stop in the best position and the doors will be opened to allow pictures while will be not possible to step out from the bus. Where we will be allowed to stay out of the bus, we need anyway to play as a group and respect the limits that will be indicated.
Being the bus available all day, if someone have to depart earlier, it will be possible to go back to the Terminal at any hour (please let us know your exigencies at the beginning of the tour).

A small fee (10 Euro) will be collected during the day to cover bus expense.

A yellow high visibility jacket is mandatory for the ramp tour. You can bring your own one from home but it must be yellow (orange or red are not allowed, because on the ramp this colour is used to identify SEA employees). For whom may need it, we will have some yellow jackets (with the word "Spotter" in the back) available (10 Euro each)

Lunch not included, we need to pass security check before going into the ramp (same rules as boarding planes) but water bottles and a "reasonable" amount of food will be allowed (+additional provided on the bus).

Toilette (but we are not responsible for their "status") and automatic machines for beverages and coffee will be available very close to some spotting point (but I suggest you a tour to the toilette before to beginning of the event!).

Car Parking: For whom is arriving in Malpensa by car, a free of charge and closed parking area will be available starting from 09.45 AM 'till about 1 hour after the end of the event.
The area is located close to the old "SIAI Marchetti" hangar, along the road that connect internally T1 and T2 and close to Alitalia Crew Centre. Detailed picture/map can be provided on request. The terminal can be reached by using the free shuttle bus running every 15' between T1 and T2.

Hotel in Malpensa area: in case you need to book an hotel room in MXP for your visit, we reached an agreement with the Holiday Inn Express located close to the Terminal area. See details in the enclosed .pdf. The rate should be 70 Euro/double room.

If anyone would like to participate to one of these glorious days, just remind that to secure your "booking" I need a clear copy of your passport (it is requested by the Police to grant ramp access for the day).
I will accept max 70 guests per day first in, first served; with at least 10/12 places reserved to friends that will come here for the first time.
To allow a big number of friends to attend to the event, each friend can be present during only one of the two days. Anyway let me know if you would like to be present to both days we will have a sort of "waiting list" to fulfil last minute no shows.

Please remember that the program of these events could be modified or even cancelled any time because of security reasons. We are not responsible for this (anyway it never happened in more than 10 years experience in organising these events).

Please do not hesitate to contact me by return and I will provide further details.

See you in September.

Enclosed a copy of the report published on "Skyliner" by Robin Bamps after last year's event.
