Det var visstnok motorrelatert. Det virker jo litt underlig å fly tilbake over et ETOPS segment hvis det er tilfelle, men man må jo gå ut ifra at de visste hva de gjorde og at der var en plan bak det hele... (Dette er jo et engelsk selskap så der var sikkert en veldig komplisert plan).

Presumably the return flight from Houston to London would have been canceled no matter what, and on top of that, British Airways would have had a more challenging time performing maintenance on the jet, or even getting it back to London.
Passengers on British Airways flight BA31 experienced an 11-hour ordeal when their aircraft, bound for Hong Kong, had to return to London. The Boeing 777-200ER registered G-YMMI departed from Heathrow Airport but turned back after four hours over Turkmenistan due to technical problems. The airline opted to return to London for repairs by its own maintenance team.
