It looks like this is in fact happening. Atlantic Airways has filed with the US Department of Transportation requesting permission to operate seasonal flights between the Faroe Islands and New York as of late summer 2019.

The airline proposes using a 180 seat Airbus A320neo for the route. The flight would cover a distance of just over 3,000 miles, so should be within range for the aircraft.

Var på FAE i 4 dager i sommer, og bet meg merke i at det var mange amerikanere. Kjenner også amerikanske kolleger som reiser dit og da tar de via CPH med SAS hele tiden. Tror kanskje denne ruten vil ta noe av SK USA-CPH-FAE. Så kanskje dette er et svar på SK sin inntreden for litt tid tilbake? [emoji3166][emoji847][emoji4]

Da blei det Newburgh (SWF) … i tillegg til PLAY som allerede flyr dit, samt Norse som sier det skal satse der også.
After years of planning and postponements, Atlantic Airways (RC, Vágar) will commence its first transatlantic services to the United States at the end of summer, launching scheduled flights between the Faroe Islands and New York, the carrier’s CEO, Jóhanna á Bergi, has told the Faroese national radio broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The chief executive said that the airline would offer direct flights between Vágar and Newburgh (New York Stewart) International Airport on a weekly basis as of late August 2023.

Atlantic Airways Faroe Islands in the last few days revealed information regarding its second year of service to the US. In 2024, the carrier will operate Vágar/Faroe Islands – New York Stewart service from 03SEP24 to 09OCT24 on weekly basis.
