Japan Airlines says smoke seen coming from Boeing 787 battery

Jan 15 (Reuters) - Japan Airlines said on Wednesday a maintenance crew at Narita Airport discovered smoke coming from the main battery of one of its Boeing 787 jets, two hours before the plane was due to fly to Bangkok from Tokyo.

The airline said smoke was noticed in the cockpit, and then warning lights flashed - signalling a battery fault.

Hvis ikke husken min er helt på jordet, var problemet i batterirommet bak sist .. her høres det ut som problemet har sittet foran, siden det vat merkbart i cockpit ..

Ingen vits å trekke konklusjoner før man vet hva problemet er.

A maintenance technician “in the cockpit found that the white smoke was wafting outside of the window and that the message which indicated the possibility of main battery system failure was displayed on the cockpit display,” the airline said.

“The inspection of the battery case inside the battery enclosure revealed that the safety pressure relief valve ... of one cell of the eight cells opened,” JAL said. The relief valve is supposed to open if pressure rises inside a cell,
