Northern Ireland start-up set to launch with three routes

Belfast property entrepreneur David Keys expects to formally launch his new start-up airline late next month as it targets a summer start of flights.

The launch of the airline - which is on a more modest scale than had originally been suggested – was originally earmarked for November. But it is now scheduled for late January and has an operational start date of 16 June.

Early reports suggested the airline would use 10 Airbus aircraft to fly out of Belfast and Dublin, but it now appears that the company will launch on a three-route network with an unspecified number of leased Airbus A320s flying from Belfast to mainland European destinations.

The identity of the main financial backers of the venture remain undisclosed but they are expected to be named when Keys appoints a chairman and operational executives in the next few weeks.

A source close to the property entrepreneur says BBC Northern Ireland have commissioned an “Airline” type television series focusing on the airline’s launch and operation of flights.

“The initial route network of three unspecified European destinations from Belfast will increase to five in December. Other Irish airports in consideration including Dublin and Shannon,” he says.
