United Airlines said it was in the midst of temporarily grounding its 96 Boeing 757 jetliners on Tuesday and into Wednesday, in order to perform checks on earlier modifications to air-data computers on those planes.

The unusual step by United, which acknowledged failing to comply with certain mandatory inspections, could disrupt thousands of passengers and raised questions about the effectiveness of the carrier's maintenance and safety-information tracking systems to ensure timely and thorough completion of inspections and repairs. The 757 fleet amounts to more than a quarter of all the mainline jets United flies.

... og de er jo LITT overdue, da .... :wow:

The airworthiness directive in question dates from 2004, when the FAA required modifications to the air-data computer system, including installing new circuit breakers, relays and related components and making various wiring changes.
