Free food is taken off Western menu.
Salt Lake City, Utah, December 12
From New Years Day, passengers on Western Airlines' flights are likely to feel a little peckish by the time they land. The airline announced today that no in-flight meals will be served after the end of this month.
Passengers will save about 5 per cent on fares, according to Western president Terrell c. Drinkwater. Western it seems, has come full circle. In 1928 it was the first airline to offer free in-flight meals. "It is perhaps appropriate that we are the first to take them off," Drinkwater observed. However, in a highly competitive industry, service becomes a discriminator.
