N661US fløy sin siste tur i natt. Nå skal den bli museumsgjenstand.

Ship 6301 will move to the Delta Flight Museum, where it will become the latest aircraft exhibit.

Today Delta retired the first Boeing 747-400 aircraft ever delivered to a commercial airline, after its final flight from Honolulu to Atlanta.

Delta Ship 6301 made its first flight with Northwest Airlines in December 1989, and has logged more than 61 million miles, enough to make 250 trips from the Earth to the moon. Northwest later merged with Delta.

Og da er den på sin endelige parkeringsplass. Nå begynner arbeidet inni før den åpnes for publikum.

With fresh mud on her tires, our N661US made it to the final stretch. Now onto interior preparations so all can enjoy the majesty of a 747 without paying airfare.

They will leave a visible cargo bin cutaway, have a wing walk area (max 49 people), leave an intact section of coach moved to the front, and keep the upstairs and first class as in the flying days. The interior cannot be kept to museum standard climate control for preservation of artifacts (i.e., uniforms), so it will be to personal comfort standards, with more informative and perhaps interactive exhibits instead.
