Hi guys,

I would like to present you new pictures from Tegel.
Hope you enjoy them :).
---------------------------------

Yeaa... the A340 is one of my favorite types, so I´m glad I can see them more often now :D. As the government´s air transport unit (Flugbereitschaft) is based at Köln-Bonn Airport (CGN), they need to dispatch the airplanes to Berlin every time the president, chancellor or high ranked ministers need to travel. Depending on requirements they send a Global, A319, A310 or the A340. For long-haul flights they dispatch a back-up A340 as well, which mostly returns to CGN after "#1" succesfully took off. Like here... double arrival within 30 mins, double departure within 5 mins.

Hey,

thanks for your feedback :).

@inger: No problem, just take a plane and in less than 2hrs you´re in Berlin and watching Hainan :D.
@putzmeister: I´ll do so, when I´ve got new pics. Probably there will follow some nightshots still in October :).

How is spotting at TXL? Easy to access with public transport? What kind of traffic to expect?

@Vede: Public transport only by bus.
Lines 109 and X9 run from ´Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten´ (train station / "City West") and stop also at ´U-Bahnhof Jakob-Kaiser-Platz´ (subway station / line U7 Rathaus Spandau - Rudow (> bus service to SXF)).
Line TXL runs from ´Bahnhof Alexanderplatz´ (train station / "City East" near the TV-Tower) and stops also at ´Berlin-Hauptbahnhof´ (main station).
Line 128 connects the airport with the subway line U6 (running to downtown) at ´U-Bahnhof Kurt-Schumacher-Platz´ (subway station).

Well, for us QR isn´t a highlight anymore (i guess they even fly 7/7), but MIAT still is.
Because of Berlin and Moscow being the only MIAT destinations in Europe, the B763 and the B738 are always welcome here. Many spotters come to TXL just to see MIAT!

Kind of reminds me of the late 70s when I was joining my Opa spotting at TXL and from my grandparents rooftop near The Wall at Falkensee in the british sector.... I was 5 yrs old, and gained my interest for aircrafts and flying from TXL.
I think opa had 1000s of pictures of aircrafts departing and arriving TXL from the 50s until late 70s. Unfortunately, when my grandmother died in april this year, someone at the nursing home threw everything away before we could get to Berlin from our easter holiday in s-e asia :(

Very nice indeed! I like the way you use Berlin as forground, yet still manage to keep the planes in the picture. Happy you share these kind of photos, and the night ones are sublime!

Thanks for great info. Is this terrace with windows like the one in MUC or just a small fence like for example AMS. When does the terrace have backlight?

Berlin_Spotter
18-10-2012, 01:17
There are no windows :). Backlight, hm it depends. As the terrace has the shape of an hexagon (http://maps.google.de/maps?q=berlin&hl=de&ll=52.55554,13.291934&spn=0.005173,0.009645&hnear=Berlin&gl=de&t=k&z=17) you can change your positions as you want. If you want to take pictures of departing and arriving planes (runway shots), backlight starts at about 5:30pm (the sun stands straight to the runway axis).

Now you will understand, why the Berlin spotters aren´t happy about the new airport. Terrace with windows, facing west :(.
